Plans Ahead

Druk Green Power Corporation is one of the fastest growing companies in Bhutan. It has declared 2010 as the year of “gaining confidence and taking initiative”.

Recognizing the critical role human resources play for the success and the sustenance of the company, Druk Green Power Corporation will continue prioritizing human capital building into the foreseeable future. DGPC shall train and integrate young engineers and managers so as to keep pace with the rapid growth in the power sector.

Druk Green Power Corporation is a lead partner in construction of the 114 MW Dagachhu Hydroelectric Project. The completion of this project will be critical in assessing the capabilities of the Druk Green Power Corporation in managing future project construction activities. Meanwhile, Druk Green Power Corporation has also initiated a huge investment for the construction of the 208 MW Nikachhu project, 100 MW Gamri project and diversion of Tsibjalumchhu to the THP reservoir. Druk Green Power Corporation has also been taking up the studies for the medium size Maokhola hydroelectric project in south central Bhutan.

Druk Green Power Corporation plans to standardize its performances to international standards by joining international performance benchmarking consortium from 2010.So Druk Green Power Corporation will be establishing three Centers of Excellence and a Reclamation Center (to be later upgraded to undertake research and development) starting 2010 to minimize high dependence of the Druk Green Power Corporation plants on original manufacturers of equipments for critically sensitive operational and maintenance activities. This center shall not only provide services to the company’s unit but is also aimed to provide services to the nearby Indian power plants in future.

Druk Green Power Corporation has drawn up a very ambitious investment plans, which is in the process of being finalized. The investment plan addresses the mandates of the company to play a key role in development of the hydropower sector, to ensure domestic energy security and to develop required human resources for the hydropower sector. These plans are outside of the 10,000 MW by 2020 initiatives of RGOB.

Druk Green Power Corporation has a lot to look forward to. It is provided with all the opportunities for improvement, growth and more importantly to play a vital role in accelerating hydropower development in Bhutan. Therefore, Druk Green Power Corporation benchmarks itself to the best practices and continuously strives to meet these targets through different measures.
